Gaisce
Gaisce , also known as the President’s Award, is Ireland’s National Challenge Award, , and a challenge from the President of Ireland, to young people between the ages of 15 and 25.
The President’s Award works on the basis of a personal challenge set by each individual student.
Each student sets his/her challenge and agree it with a President’s Award leader (PAL). You won’t be competing with other participants, as each challenge is completely individual… so the only person you’ll compete with is yourself.
There are three different types of award that you can earn – bronze, silver and gold.
Here in the school our Transition Year students are given the opportunity of earning their Bronze award.
There are 4 different challenge areas in the Bronze Award. To earn an award, you will need to participate in each of the 4 challenge areas. The 4 challenge areas are:
1. Community Involvement (13 weeks)
2. Personal Skill (13 weeks)
3. Physical Recreation (13 weeks)
(Students also have to do and additional activity in any of the above sections. (13 weeks))
4. Adventure Journey- Students must plan, prepare and undertake a 2 day, 1 night adventure journey with the rest of their group covering a walking distance of 25-35 km.
The Presidents Award Leader for the school is Mr. Reilly.
