CPCC's very first Junior Girls football team got their season underway against Mercy Secondary School Inchicore on Wednesday morning at Bluebell Community Center.
The team battled hard and gave everything against a very good team who had finished runners up in the league last season.
The team came in 2-0 down at half time but went back out for the second half with their heads held high and pushed Mercy hard. Mercy pulled away to take a 4-0 lead going into the last 10 minutes.
Collinstown showed great togetherness and heart to keep going right until the end and never gave up. The players' efforts were rewarded with a well-worked move between Grace Keating and Vetra Norbutaite which Grace Keating slotted into the back of the Mercy net with a couple of minutes to go to give a final score of 4-1.
The whole team put a real shift in with a real standout performance in goal from Alex Ward McLaughlin who made some great saves to keep us in the game at times.
Overall, it was a great occasion for the students involved to get to represent their school and everyone said they had fun and enjoyed the occasion, which is the most important thing.
Thanks also to Ms Maguire for helping out on the day and playing a blinder as our assistant manager.
Thanks to manager Mr Bailey for the match report and organising.
