Active South Dublin
On Thursday, the 21st of November, a group of our TY students were joined by members of Active South Dublin to try out the new Play Innovation equipment being added to astro pitches in various areas. Our school was fortunate enough to receive this new equipment, which will be enjoyed by students of all ages.
The Crossbar King
This game can be played using a football, rugby ball, tennis racket, or hurl. The goal is to hit the ball off one of the raised bars on the fence. Each colour awards a different number of points, with seven points being the highest. The score can then be recorded on the board to the right.
Targets
Targets were also a new feature of the astro pitches provided by Active South Dublin. The aim is to try and hit the targets to earn points.
You can attempt to hit these targets with any type of ball, such as a football, rugby ball, or Gaelic football. Each target was a different size, which determined how many points you earned: the largest target awarded 25 points, while the smallest target gave you 100 points.
Along with the TYs, Ms Kirwan, and the Active South Dublin staff members, the Lord Mayor of Dublin was also in attendance. The students took turns playing the games and had a great time. Everyone had a go at the Crossbar King — even the Lord Mayor!
We are very privileged to have received this new and exciting equipment, which will serve and benefit all the students at Collinstown Park Community College.
