The Collinstown senior girls football team got their season off to a winning start on Monday morning with a hard fought and well-deserved victory against local rivals St Kevin’s.
Collinstown took the game to St Kevin’s from the start and were rewarded with a well worked goal finished by Grace Keating around the 20-minute mark.
St Kevin’s then scored two goals on the counterattack in quick succession which were against the run of play to lead 2-1 at the break.
Collinstown came back out in the second half with a real determination to get back into the game. A spectacular long-range strike from Kaci Dardis drew the game level which brought it back to 2-2 in a tightly contested game.
The final 20 minutes seen Collinstown put in an incredible display of attacking football in which they confined St Kevin’s to their own half. This resulted in two well worked goals with hat-trick hero Grace Keating scoring both with the assists coming from Amy Bryne and Kaci Dardis.
The game finished 4-2 to Collinstown in the end which was a reward for the hunger, desire and skill shown by the players on the day. A big well done to all involved and hopefully we will have many more victories to come.
Thanks to Mr Bailey for the write up and Amy Byrne for the pictures.
