Healthy Eating Programme
Every second Friday, Group 1 in Transition Year takes part in a Healthy Eating Programme. Viv and Deirdre from the HSE come in and teach us how to make healthier versions of our most frequently eaten foods. We tweak the recipes to include extra fruit and vegetables while reducing sugar and salt content. We do this in HE2, where we have all the equipment we need.
What have we cooked so far?
Since the start of September, we have cooked:
- Chicken Goujon Wraps with Couscous
- Spaghetti Bolognese
- Chilli Con Carne
- Flapjacks with Lemon Drizzle
- Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Brownies
- Smoothies
- Burgers and Wedges
We have learned how to make healthier versions of our favourite foods.
As a group, we have really enjoyed this module. We are always so engrossed in the work that the time flies by each week. The best part of this module is tasting the food and bringing samples to our favourite teachers to earn ourselves brownie points.
