On Friday the 1st of November Shelbourne won their first league title since 2006 after a dramatic battle against rival Shamrock Rovers for the league title.
The last day of the League of Ireland season ended in dramatic fashion as Shamrock Rovers won their last game leaving them top of the league. Shelbourne needed a win to retake top of the league. Harry Wood scored an 85th minute winner off a deflected free kick that sealed the club's first league title in 18 years. The Brandywell in Derry was electric on the night as ‘The Shel's’ came out the much-deserved winners of the game and league.
The league win also means a return to European football as they will be in the qualifiers for the Champions League next year. They require at least two qualifier wins to guarantee the group stages of European football. Shamrock Rovers are the only remaining Irish team currently left in Europe as they continue to play Conference League football.
Shelbourne is a football team founded in 1895 based in Drumcondra and they play in the league of Ireland premier division. They play in Tolka park that has a capacity of 5,700 people. Their current manager is Daimen Duff a man who has won two premier league titles with Chelsea and many other trophies with other teams.
