On Monday the 16th of January the u17 boys school team faced Rockbrook in a crucial semi-final game. Whoever won this went into the final. Collinstown went out with plenty of heart and desire to secure a second final spot for CPCC this year as the U19s are also in a final.
Both teams started off slowly adapting to the harsh conditions of the pitch. CPCC started playing ball and had some half chances, about 15-20 minutes in they got a breakthrough with a smart Sean Duff opener. CPCC built on this goal and didn’t slow down. With some good play and hard work. Ten minutes later a ball went over the top, it was chased down by Cian Burke who beat both of his players and hit it into the top corner. This gave a 2-0 lead to CPCC. From there Rockbrook’s heads began to drop, CPCC kept going and added another great goal to their tally. Lee Dunne picked the ball up at the edge of the box and beat his man and went on to fire it into the top corner. This saw them into the first half.
CPCC started off bright, not slowing down and continuing to press and attack. CPCC controlled the game moving the ball well. A good run by Derek Kavanagh led to being awarded a penalty. Lee Dunne slotted it home calmly to put CPCC four up.
CPCC continued to defend well and didn’t drop their standards. The CPCC skipper finished off a great move started by Logan O’Brien to add another to CPCC’s tally. A great effort and win from Mr Lanigan’s squad.
Very best of luck to the U17s team in the final this Monday.
