On Monday, February 26th, several people came in from UCD, for a science Workshop with our TY students.
In this workshop, there were groups of four at each table, each pair was handed a piece of equipment between the two, and were instructed on what to do. There was a small, rectangular piece of cardboard paper with 5 circles of different sizes, ranging from smallest to biggest. There were digits beneath the circles to indicate what measurement you should set your micropipette, to accurately fill the circle with a red coloured liquid. There were multiple vials filled with different coloured liquids, but TY’s were directed to only use the colours they were instructed to. After filling the circles with the liquid, using the micropipette, the TY’s were handed out a grid, with letters from A-F going vertically, and numbers from 1-12 going horizontally. The students were then handed out sheets of paper, directing them to what colour shall be placed in which capsule.
In the end, TY’s discovered that the layout they were creating made up an image, and each TY got an individual image per two people.
It was a fun day for TY’s and they're grateful that they came out from UCD to offer them a fun learning experience.
